What you study
Talmudic literature is fascinating and highly diverse in its content and literary forms. It underpins Jewish cultural and intellectual life and the traditional Jewish way of life, and is also a literary wellspring that has nourished generations of authors and creators.
The studies focus on the Oral Torah, with attention to historical, philological, literary and legal aspects, and cover several fields: Tannaitic literature, Amoraic literature, halakhic literature and medieval commentary. Courses in the degree include: Tannaitic literature—the Mishnah, Tosefta and halakhic midrashim; Amoraic literature—the Babylonian Talmud and the Jerusalem Talmud; post-Talmudic literature—the literature of the Geonim, the Rishonim and the Acharonim.
