Admission requirements

Intake for the 2026/27 academic year

You can be admitted through one of these tracks:

Regular track

suitability score

  • Engineering suitability scoreacademic year: 2026/27Acceptance threshold: 683Rejection threshold: 663
  • The engineering suitability score is based on a weighted calculation of the bagrut average and the psychometric score, with an additional 10 bonus points for applicants who took bagrut exams in mathematics and physics at 5 units and received a grade of at least 55 in each. These additional points are awarded to applicants who meet the basic requirements for applying to this program

Special track

Exceptional admission

  • Applications for consideration for exceptional admission will be accepted from those who do not meet one of the basic admission requirements, including the requirement of “previous education that prevents admission,” and only if they meet the alternative condition for that requirement. Please note that every application for exceptional admission is forwarded to the unit’s admissions committee, which will decide whether to approve or reject the application, taking into account all the relevant information and the number of places still available in the requested department.
For adults and those who have studied before2

Bachelor's degree

  • A bachelor's degree (first degree) from an academic institution recognized by the CHE, with an average of 85 or higher, and a grade of 70 or higher in 5-unit Physics in the bagrut; or a placement test in Physics; or Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University; or Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel; or a grade of 80 or higher in each and an average of 85 or higher in the following courses: Calculus 1A or Calculus 1B or Linear Algebra at Tel Aviv University, or Infinitesimal Calculus 1 or Infinitesimal Calculus 2 or Linear Algebra 1 at The Open University of Israel; and Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University, or Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel

Transfer track from The Open University of Israel

  • Admission based on a transfer track from The Open University of Israel; see details under the “Advanced Year” tab.

These are minimum requirements: meeting them does not by itself guarantee admission.

For every track

  • A bagrut grade of 75 or higher in mathematics at 5 units, or *a bagrut grade of 85 or higher in mathematics at 4 units (all applicants admitted on the basis of 4 units are required to take a mathematics placement test)
  • An additional science subject: physics at 5 units with a grade of 70 or higher; chemistry or a technology subject at 5 units with a grade of 70 or higher, with a physics placement test; or biology at 5 units with a grade of 80 or higher, with a physics placement test; or a grade of 70 or higher in Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University, or in Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel
  • An overall psychometric score of 620 or higher, or a bachelor's degree from an academic institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education with an average of 85 or higher, and a grade of 70 or higher in bagrut physics at 5 units; or in a physics placement test; or in Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University; or in Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel; or a grade of 80 or higher in each and an average of 85 or higher in the following courses: Calculus 1A or Calculus 1B or Linear Algebra at Tel Aviv University, or Infinitesimal Calculus 1 or Infinitesimal Calculus 2 or Linear Algebra 1 at The Open University of Israel; and Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University, or Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel
  • No previous academic studies at an academic institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education, or previous academic studies were completed with an average of 75 or higher and were not discontinued for academic reasons (such as failing courses)
  • Applicants who graduated from high schools abroad and whose certificate is not equivalent to an Israeli bagrut certificate: these applicants must complete a year at a recognized mechina in the science track (5 units in mathematics and 5 units in physics).
  • Graduates of the mechina for the Faculty of Engineering must have completed a mechina in the science track (5 units in mathematics and 5 units in physics). Admission is based on a suitability score, calculated from the psychometric exam score combined with the bagrut average or the mechina average.
  • The university’s general admission requirementsAn Israeli bagrut certificate or a high-school completion certificate from abroad

What you study

If you are good, you can do almost anything you want in research and industry!

Biomedical engineering combines several scientific fields and is designed to provide engineering solutions to medical problems and develop advanced medical devices. Besides theoretical studies, the curriculum also includes practical work in laboratories and a final project. Topics covered in the degree include mathematics, physics, chemistry, and computer science; engineering sciences—mechanics, electricity and electronics, control, and materials; as well as life sciences—anatomy, biochemistry, biology, physiology, genetics, pharmacology, and more.
