Admission requirements

Intake for the 2026/27 academic year

You can be admitted through one of these tracks:

For reservists

Bagrut only – for reservists / career soldiers serving in combat roles in the “Swords of Iron” war

  • Bagrut average of at least 105
  • Up to 10% of all applicants admitted to each program may be admitted through this track.

Regular track

Combined score

  • Combined score: 650
  • The minimum psychometric exam score for calculating the combined score is 550 in either quantitative reasoning or the general multi-domain score (whichever is higher).
  • 8 units in science and mathematics subjects, subject to the minimum requirements.

Regular track

Holders of a foreign high-school diploma

  • Psychometric exam: 650

Regular track

Engineering sekhem

  • Engineering sekhem: 660
  • Conditional on a psychometric score of at least 550 and a quantitative subscore of at least 120.
  • Bagrut in at least 4/5 units in mathematics and physics.
  • An engineering sekhem cannot be calculated with 3 units in mathematics, without 5 units in physics, and without a quantitative subscore.

Through a preparatory program

Admission to the academic program upon completion of the specialized engineering mechina

  • Completion of the specialized mechina with an average of at least 90 and a minimum grade of at least 85 in each subject.
  • The number of places available to mechina graduates is limited and admission is subject to availability.
  • Mechina admission requirements: eligibility for a bagrut certificate + a Yael exam score of 115 for those required to take it.
  • English is not included in the average, but a grade of at least 70 is required.

Special track

Admission categories for the “Foundations” track:

  • Admission categories for the “Foundations” track: 1. Combined admission score of 600 (a psychometric score of at least 550 is required to calculate the combined admission score). 2. Admission based on bagrut alone: 105+; 8 units in science and mathematics subjects; English level placement. 3. Graduates of a designated mechina with an average of 80 and a minimum grade of 80 in each subject.
  • Admission to the Foundations track is for 1 year only. Transfer to the second year is conditional on completing the first year with an average of at least 70 and no failing grades.
  • Meeting the minimum requirements: bagrut in mathematics at 4 units with a grade of at least 80 / 5 units with a grade of at least 70, physics at 5 units with a grade of at least 70.

Special track

Exceptional admission

  • The department reserves the right to consider applicants who do not meet the admission requirements through exceptional admission, subject to a limit of up to 10% of the admission quota, in accordance with Council for Higher Education guidelines. Each case will be reviewed individually by the departmental admissions committee.
  • The departmental admission requirements take all science and mathematics subjects in the bagrut into account. Therefore, applicants with strong aptitude for science and mathematics in the bagrut and psychometric exam who do not meet the admission requirements will be referred for a review of exceptional cases.
For adults and those who have studied before3

Non-certified practical engineer: a practical engineer in their final year of studies at the School of Practical Engineering will be admitted “conditionally” on the basis of:

  • At least one MAHAT subject with a grade of 90 + an average of 90 in internal grades.
  • Presentation of external and internal grades with an average of at least 90 by the start of the academic year.
  • Presentation of the diploma by the end of the first year.

Certified practical engineer

  • Certified practical engineer: average of MAHAT grades and internal grades of 90 or higher.
  • Certified practical engineer with an average of 90 or higher in external grades and an average of 90 or higher in internal grades, excluding the project.
  • Mathematics and Physics supplementary mechina, in accordance with the bagrut threshold requirements.

Applicants with previous academic studies in engineering and science fields

  • Previous academic studies in science/engineering fields – at least 40 credit points with an average of 85 or higher.

These are minimum requirements: meeting them does not by itself guarantee admission.

For every track

  • English level placement at “Basic” with a score of at least 85 on the level placement test administered by NITE is a necessary condition for admission.
  • Mathematics4 units with a grade of at least 85; 5 units with a grade of at least 75. A grade below the required level requires a mathematics completion mechina before starting studies.
  • English4 units with a grade of at least 70. 5 units with a grade of at least 65. A grade below the required grade requires a supplementary English mechina.
  • A Yael exam score of at least 115 is required for applicants who completed high school where the language of instruction was not Hebrew, and/or who took the psychometric exam in a language other than Hebrew.
  • Physics: 5 units with a grade of at least 75. Lack of a physics bagrut requires a physics completion mechina. A grade below 75 in 5-unit physics bagrut requires a physics completion mechina.
  • The number of places in this department is limited—admission is subject to availability.
  • Eligibility for a bagrut certificate and English at 4 units with a passing grade are essential admission requirements.

What you study

Civil engineering deals with the design and construction of structures and systems, including residential buildings, industrial buildings, roads, ports, bridges, infrastructure, and more. Alongside theoretical studies, the degree also includes practical experience. During their studies, students can choose a specialization, such as structural engineering, transportation engineering, mapping and geo-information engineering, or environmental, water, and soil engineering. Courses in the degree include mathematics, physics, chemistry, programming, mechanics, materials engineering, and courses related to the specialization, such as construction management, structural design, geotechnics, geodesy, fluid mechanics, hydrology, environmental control, transportation, and systems analysis.
