What you study

In response to the dramatic changes taking place around the world in the amount of data being collected and in methods for handling huge data files, the Department of Statistics and Data Science places greater emphasis on data science methods.

Statistics focuses on 2 main areas: collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting quantitative data, and developing models for forecasting, drawing conclusions, and making decisions under complex conditions of uncertainty. The Statistics and Data Science degree provides broad theoretical knowledge of statistical and mathematical models, along with applied tools. Students learn to independently develop computer tools for data analysis. Courses include calculus, linear algebra, introduction to programming, statistical inference, statistical models, multivariate analysis, data management and analysis using SAS and SQL, computational methods in statistics, and more.
