What you study

Physicists use mathematics as a working language and need comprehensive mathematical knowledge. The combined physics-mathematics track deepens students’ mathematical education even further alongside their physics studies, giving similar weight to both fields. Graduates of the program are physicists with a deep understanding of mathematics, or mathematicians with a very strong aptitude for applied science. Graduates will have a basic education in an especially broad range of physics and applied mathematics, and will be able to integrate well into research and development teams in science-based industries. These abilities will give them an excellent starting point for advanced studies, both in the Faculty of Mathematics and in the Faculty of Physics.

  • Teaching in secondary schoolmost commonTeaching at the secondary-school level, excluding the teaching of subjects intended to prepare students for work in specific fields of employment.
  • Physics and Astronomymost commonResearch and development of concepts, theories, and methods in physics or astronomy, as well as the application of scientific knowledge in these fields in industry, medicine, the military, and more.
  • Academic Teaching of Natural SciencesPreparing and delivering lectures and classes at institutions of higher education. Conducting research and writing academic articles and books.
  • Software DevelopmentResearching, analyzing, and evaluating requirements for software applications. Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software solutions that meet those requirements.
  • Electronics EngineeringResearch, design, and guidance for the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of electronic systems. Study of the technological aspects of materials, products, and processes, and providing advice about them.

In short, in plain words

In the combined program, students study physics and mathematics together and deepen their knowledge of mathematics alongside their physics studies.

The combined program gives similar weight to physics and mathematics.
