What you would be doing
The Armored Corps operates one of the IDF's most significant weapons — the tank. The Merkava Mark 4 combines heavy, precise firepower, mobility, armor and advanced technology; every tank in the fighting brigades now carries the Trophy active-protection system against missiles, making it a real edge on the battlefield. As a tank crew member you'll drive and operate tanks in training, routine deployment and wherever you're needed. You train in Brigade 460 for one of the tank trades before joining one of the corps' three regular brigades — 7th, 188th or 401st.
What it takes to get in
Profile 72 and above. BMI: 17–35.
Training
Basic training 04 (about two months) at Shizafon base, covering rifle skills; a roughly two-month specialty stage (gunner, loader or driver) with theory and practice, including selection for the officer track; then about four months of advanced training as a tank crew. Prospective commanders continue to a roughly four-month tank-commanders' course at Shizafon.
Where you serve
In the brigades' battalions, across every combat sector — Lebanon, Syria, Gaza and Judea and Samaria.
