What you would be doing
Paramedics are the most highly trained soldiers for life-saving procedures before a casualty reaches the hospital, making critical treatment calls the moment a wounded or sick person arrives. From this course you can be placed as a combat paramedic in infantry battalions, combat units, regional brigades, the navy, the air force or commando units.
What it takes to get in
Profile 72 and above and Dapar 70 and above. Female candidates commit to 32 months of service. Only children and lone soldiers must sign a volunteer declaration form. BMI 17-35. Chances of acceptance among those who meet the requirements: low. Yom Ha-MEA scores (female candidates only): field 2 and above, human relations 3 and above, command 3 and above, teamwork 3 and above.
Training
A 20-week pre-military preparatory course, then rifleman's tironut 03, then a 58-week course made up of 4 months of classroom study at the military medical school, practical rotations in hospital departments (4 weeks) and on Magen David Adom intensive-care ambulances (16 weeks), and a 5-week military completion segment at Bahad 10 where you learn the trade in its army context.
Where you serve
In front-line units — battalions, brigades, elite units, military intensive-care ambulances, training bases and more. Those who qualify can go on to officer training.
What it is worth afterwards
The course is fully recognized by Magen David Adom (MDA) — completing it makes you a certified MDA paramedic as well.
