What you study

A bachelor's degree in Arabic Language and Literature opens the door to an exciting world: the story of the revival of the ancient language and how it functioned, changed, and underwent upheavals over the generations.

The studies provide extensive knowledge of the Arabic language, both theoretical and practical, across its different forms: classical, literary, modern, and spoken Arabic. They also provide knowledge of literature written in Arabic and of Arab culture. Courses in the degree include language and linguistics courses: Arabic and the Semitic languages, Arabic grammar through modern and classical approaches, and the dialects spoken in the East and West; as well as literature courses: classical Arabic literature, in both prose and poetry, modern Arabic literature, theories of translation, the history of Muslim thought, and polemical literature.
