Admission requirements

Intake for the 2026/27 academic year

You can be admitted through one of these tracks:

Regular track

Engineering suitability score

  • Engineering suitability score* meets the admission thresholdacademic year: 2026/27Acceptance threshold: 630Rejection threshold: 610

Regular track

A score of 140 or higher in the quantitative reasoning section

  • A score of 140 or higher in the quantitative reasoning section of the psychometric exam, and an Engineering suitability score no more than 5 points below the admission threshold, and an average grade of 85 or higher in mathematics and physics or chemistry, at 5 units in each subject

By bagrut, no psychometric exam

Admission track without a psychometric exam

  • Bagrut average of 112 or higher and mathematics at 5 units with a grade of 95 or higher and physics at 5 units with a grade of 90 (admission track without a psychometric exam)

Special track

Exceptional admission

  • Applications for consideration for exceptional admission will be accepted from those who do not meet one of the basic admission requirements, including the requirement of “previous education that prevents admission,” and only if they meet the alternative condition for that requirement. Please note that every application for exceptional admission is forwarded to the unit’s admissions committee, which will decide whether to approve or reject the application, taking into account all the relevant information and the number of places still available in the requested department.
For adults and those who have studied before1

Completed academic education

  • A bachelor’s degree from an academic institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education, with an average of 85 or higher, and a grade of 70 or higher in high-school physics at 5 units; or in the physics placement exam or the Classical Physics 1 course at Tel Aviv University or a Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism course at The Open University of Israel; or a grade of 80 or higher in each of the following courses and an average of 85 or higher in them: Calculus 1A or Calculus 1B or Linear Algebra at Tel Aviv University, or Calculus 1 or Calculus 2 or Linear Algebra 1 at The Open University of Israel; and Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University, or Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel

These are minimum requirements: meeting them does not by itself guarantee admission.

For every track

  • 75 or higher in 5 units of bagrut mathematics or *a grade of 85 or higher in 4 units of bagrut mathematics (all applicants admitted on the basis of 4 units are required to take a mathematics placement test
  • Another science subject: 5 units of physics with a grade of 70 or higher; 5 units of chemistry or a technological subject with a grade of 70 or higher, with a physics placement test; or 5 units of biology with a grade of 80 or higher, with a physics placement test; or a grade of 70 or higher in Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University or in Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel; or a score of 140 or higher in the quantitative reasoning section of the psychometric exam, and: a grade of 90 or higher in 5 units of mathematics, with a physics placement test; or a suitability score at least 20 points higher than the admission threshold, and a grade of 90 or higher in 5 units of mathematics, with a physics placement test
  • Overall psychometric score: 600 or higher, or a bachelor’s degree from a recognized academic institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education, with an average of 85 or higher, and a grade of 70 or higher in bagrut physics at 5 units; or a grade of 70 or higher on the physics level placement exam, or in Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University, or in Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel; or a grade of 80 or higher in each of the following courses and an average of 85 or higher in these courses: Calculus 1A or Calculus 1B or Linear Algebra at Tel Aviv University, or Infinitesimal Calculus 1, Infinitesimal Calculus 2 or Linear Algebra 1 at The Open University of Israel; and Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University, or Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism at The Open University of Israel; or a bagrut average of 112 or higher and a grade of 95 or higher in mathematics at 5 units and 5 units of physics with a grade of 90 (admission track without the psychometric exam)
  • The applicant has not previously studied at a recognized academic institution recognized by the CHE, or the previous academic studies ended with a cumulative average of 75 or higher and were not discontinued for academic reasons (such as failing courses)

What you study

The program aims to train you for research and development in academia or industry. In your final academic year, you will have the option of completing an independent final project at the university or in industry.

Materials engineering deals with the relationship between the structure and composition of a material and its properties, combining knowledge from engineering and science. This is a broad field that covers both the planning and production stages of a product and the study of the different materials it is made of from chemical, physical, and biological perspectives. Courses in the degree include basic courses in mathematics and science, as well as courses such as material structure, thermodynamics and kinetics, mechanical, electrical, optical, and electrochemical properties, metallic, ceramic, polymeric, and electronic materials, and a practical final project.
