Admission requirements

Intake for the 2026/27 academic year

You can be admitted through one of these tracks:

Regular track

suitability score

  • The suitability score meets the admission thresholdacademic year: 2026/27Acceptance threshold: 650Rejection threshold: 649
  • The engineering suitability score* is based on a weighted calculation of the bagrut average and the psychometric score, with an additional 10 bonus points for applicants who took bagrut exams in mathematics and physics at 5 units and received a grade of at least 55 in each. These additional points are awarded to applicants who meet the basic admission requirements for this program

Regular track

A score of 135 or higher in the quantitative reasoning section

  • A score of 135 or higher in the quantitative reasoning section of the psychometric exam, and an engineering suitability score no more than 5 points below the cutoff, and an average grade of 85 or higher in mathematics and physics at 5 units in each subject

By bagrut, no psychometric exam

Without a psychometric exam

  • Bagrut average of 110 or higher and a grade of 85 or higher in mathematics and physics at 5 units in each subject, in the bagrut or a recognized mechina

Special track

Exceptional admission

  • Applications for consideration for exceptional admission will be accepted from those who do not meet one of the basic admission requirements, including the requirement of “previous education that prevents admission,” and only if they meet the alternative condition for that requirement. Please note that every application for exceptional admission is forwarded to the unit’s admissions committee, which will decide whether to approve or reject the application, taking into account all the relevant information and the number of places still available in the requested department.
For adults and those who have studied before1

Transfer track from The Open University of Israel

  • Admission based on a transfer track from The Open University of Israel; see details under the “Advanced Year” tab.

These are minimum requirements: meeting them does not by itself guarantee admission.

For every track

  • A grade of 75 or higher in bagrut mathematics at 5 units, or *a grade of 85 or higher in bagrut mathematics at 4 units (all applicants admitted on the basis of 4 units are required to take a mathematics placement test), or a grade of 75 or higher in 2 of the following courses at Tel Aviv University: Calculus 1a, Calculus 1b, Calculus 2a, Calculus 2b, Algebra, or in 2 of the following courses at The Open University of Israel: Infinitesimal Calculus 1, Infinitesimal Calculus 2, Calculus B, Linear Algebra 1, Linear Algebra 2. (These courses grant an exemption from the mathematics placement test.)
  • Physics at 5 units with a grade of 75 or higher, or chemistry or a technological subject at 5 units with a grade of 70 or higher, with a physics placement test, or biology at 5 units with a grade of 80 or higher, with a physics placement test, or a grade of 70 or higher in Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University, or in one of the following 2 courses at The Open University of Israel: Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism, or a score of 140 or higher in the quantitative reasoning section of the psychometric exam, and: a grade of 85 or higher in bagrut mathematics at 5 units, with a physics placement test
  • An overall psychometric score of 620 or higher, or a bachelor's degree from a recognized academic institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education with an average of 85 or higher, and a grade of 70 or higher in bagrut physics at 5 units; or in the physics placement test or in Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University or in the Mechanics course at The Open University of Israel, or a grade of 80 or higher in each of the 2 fields of mathematics and physics, and an average of 85 or higher in both together. Mathematics: Calculus 1a or Calculus 1b or Linear Algebra, at Tel Aviv University, or Infinitesimal Calculus 1 or Infinitesimal Calculus 2 or Calculus B or Linear Algebra 1 or Linear Algebra 2 at The Open University of Israel; physics: Classical Physics 1 at Tel Aviv University, or one of the following 2 courses at The Open University of Israel: Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism, or a bagrut average of 110 or higher and a grade of 85 or higher in bagrut mathematics and physics at 5 units in each subject
  • No previous studies at an academic institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education; or previous academic studies completed with a cumulative average of 75 or higher and were not discontinued for academic reasons (such as failing courses)
  • Graduates of the mechina for the Faculty of Engineering must complete the mechina’s science track (5 units in mathematics and 5 units in physics).
  • The university’s general admission requirementsAn Israeli bagrut certificate or a high-school completion certificate from abroad

What you study

The training you receive here will open the door to a wide range of roles in research and development, planning, manufacturing, engineering management, and maintenance.

Mechanical Engineering deals with the processes of designing, researching, developing, manufacturing, and maintaining mechanical systems, from household appliances and equipment to medical devices, control and guidance systems, air-conditioning systems, automated production machines and systems, vehicles, vessels, and aircraft. The study program includes courses in mathematics, chemistry, physics, programming, and more. In most cases, students can choose a specialization during their studies, such as energy, robotics, control and mechatronics, materials mechanics, and microsystems.
