Behind the IDF Spokesperson stands a whole system of mashaks who handle messaging around routine and emergency events — keeping in constant contact with media and journalists across every platform, escorting delegations, briefing soldiers and commanders, and standing behind everything the IDF Spokesperson announces publicly. Field mashaks gather content for media stories by talking to soldiers and commanders and finding the most compelling angles; headquarters mashaks make sure those field stories reach the press in the best possible shape. The role isn't open to men slated for combat service.
