This option is intended for students interested in studying computer science who do not meet the department’s admission cutoff, but do meet the admission cutoff for the Department of Mathematics (530).
  • Transfer route requirementsCompletion of all first-year required courses in the Department of Mathematics in one academic year, with a weighted average of at least 80 (registration for courses and a minor in Computer Science is not permitted in the first year).
  • Transfer route requirementsReaching the exemption level in English.
  • Students who meet these requirements may submit an application at the end of their first year and be admitted to the Department of Computer Science in their second year at the university.
  • Upon admission, students will be required to complete the first-year courses in the Department of Computer Science: Introduction to Computer Science (67101), Data Structures (67109), and C/C++ Programming Workshop (67315).

  • The Hebrew University Department of Computer Science undertakes to admit to the second year anyone who is eligible for a bagrut certificate and meets all the requirements of the transfer track, regardless of their bagrut average and without needing to take a psychometric exam.
  • Students wishing to transfer to the Computer Science department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem through the transfer track must begin their studies in the department no later than 4 years after taking the first course in the transfer track at the Open University, and no later than 1 year after taking their most recent course in this track.

What you study

In an era of accelerating global change, computer science is the driving force behind the most significant breakthroughs in every area of life.

Computer science combines theoretical knowledge with practical, applied knowledge of using computer systems, as well as designing and building them. During the program, students must choose 1 or more specializations. Institutions offer various specializations, such as software development, internet technologies, signal processing and machine learning, artificial intelligence and machine learning, big data, communications and the internet, cybersecurity, hardware design, computer systems, signal and image processing, computer communications, software systems, and more. The curriculum includes foundational subjects in science—mathematics, physics, and computer science; in engineering—linear systems, digital systems, and electrical engineering; as well as theoretical and practical courses related to the areas of specialization. The program also includes a final project in the last year of study.
