Transfer track

  • The following option is recommended for students interested in studying electrical and computer engineering who do not meet the admission cutoff for department 583, but do meet the admission cutoff for departments 541 (Physics) or 581 (Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics). First-year studies in these departments are essentially the same as first-year studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Students with high grades may be admitted to the second year of Electrical and Computer Engineering, provided that they have completed the program’s first-year courses. A student may transfer only at the end of their first academic year at the university, provided that they have completed all the program’s first-year courses. The transfer will be based on the weighted average of grades in the first-year required courses.

Required psychometric score for direct admission (for those eligible for a bagrut certificate)

  • Direct admission 740 (deserving advancement category 705)
For adults and those who have studied before5

Weighted score based on the psychometric exam and a bachelor’s degree

  • 50%/50% (does not apply when applicants with a degree are admitted directly)

Weighted score based on the psychometric exam, bagrut, and partial academic studies

  • Weighted score based on the psychometric exam, bagrut, and partial academic studies. Relevant admission track. Contact the Registration and Admissions Office to check your chances of admission

Transfer track from The Open University of Israel

  • A transfer track from The Open University of Israel to the department for the second year is available.
  • Students must complete at the Open University all the courses in the equivalency table below. They must earn an average grade of 90 or higher in the courses they took from this table, and a minimum grade of 75 in each course.
  • The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Hebrew University undertakes to admit to the second year anyone who meets all the transfer track requirements, regardless of their bagrut average and without requiring a psychometric exam.
  • Students who wish to transfer to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem through the transfer track must begin their studies in the department no later than 4 years after taking the first course in the transfer track at the Open University, and no later than 1 year after taking their most recent course in this track.
  • As a rule, under Hebrew University requirements, applicants for second-year studies or later must provide the Registration and Admissions Office with proof of a university exemption from English studies.

Direct admission for holders of a bachelor's degree/doctorate

What you study

Want to shape the cutting-edge technology of the future? Looking for a study program that will give you the tools to meet the challenges of high tech?

Electrical Engineering deals with electricity as a means of transmitting energy, as opposed to Electronics Engineering, which deals with using electricity to transmit information. In most cases, students must choose one or more specializations during their studies, such as electro-optics, communications, nanoelectronics, bioengineering, signal processing, computers, control, electronic devices, energy and power systems, bioelectronics, and more. Courses in the degree include theoretical courses in core subjects such as mathematics, physics, programming, and electronics, as well as theoretical and practical laboratory courses, according to the areas of specialization. The studies also include a final project in the last year.
