What you study

The curriculum offers a fascinating intellectual challenge and exposure to advanced topics in modern physics. Students engage in theoretical studies of the foundations of mathematics and physics, and combine laboratory experiments with theoretical research, in which the main research tools are mathematics and computers.

Physics deals with the fundamental laws of nature as they are expressed in observable systems, from the microscopic composition of matter to the structure of the entire universe. Among other things, physics studies the motion of objects, the behavior of matter, energy, and the effects of the laws of nature on the continuum of space and time. Courses in the degree include foundational subjects in physics and mathematics—mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics—as well as advanced courses such as solid-state physics, elementary particle physics, astrophysics, optics, biophysics and more. The studies also include laboratory experience, including learning modern measurement methods and investigating physical phenomena.
