Admission requirements
Intake for the 2026/27 academic year
You can be admitted through one of these tracks:
Regular track
suitability score
- Exact Sciences suitability score*academic year: 2026/27Acceptance threshold: 649Rejection threshold: 648
Regular track
General psychometric score of 720 or higher
- General psychometric score of 720 or higher, and a score of 135 or higher in the quantitative reasoning section of the psychometric exam (the mathematics and physics threshold requirements must also be met)
Regular track
Applicants with a exact sciences suitability score of 611 or higher
- (In all tracks except the Physics-Chemistry double major track) Applicants with an exact sciences suitability score* of 611 or higher who are below the admission cutoff** will be admitted according to the formula: 640 ≤ (H + 2 × (M-84) + 3 × (P-84), where H is the exact sciences suitability score, M is the bagrut grade in mathematics at 5 units* and P is the bagrut grade in physics at 5 units (academic mechina grades or preparatory course exam grades will also be accepted instead of the bagrut grade)
By bagrut, no psychometric exam
Without a psychometric exam
- In all tracks—a grade of 90 or higher in bagrut mathematics / in a recognized pre-academic university mechina in the science track at 5 units, or a mathematics placement test score of at least 90 as an alternative to bagrut / mechina; and a grade of 90 or higher in bagrut physics / in a recognized pre-academic university mechina in the science track at 5 units, or a physics placement test score of at least 90 as an alternative to bagrut / mechina
Another track
High school students who studied at the Youth for Science Unit
- High school students who studied at the Youth for Science Unit and met the requirements for transferring to Physics may be admitted with special status as long as they are high school students. Once they are eligible for a bagrut certificate, and only after demonstrating that they have met the transfer requirements, they will be transferred to regular student status.
Special track
Exceptional admission
- Your credentials do not meet the requirements? You may want to check the conditions for consideration for exceptional admission
For adults and those who have studied before2
Transfer route from The Open University of Israel
- Transfer admission track from The Open University of Israel: allows students to begin studying physics at The Open University of Israel and be admitted to the second year of physics studies at Tel Aviv University.
- Applicants must be at Advanced B level in English.
- This track is available only in the single major program.
Applicants with previous academic background in physics
- Applicants with previous academic background in physics may register for the second semester. Admission requirements for the second semester will be published in November
These are minimum requirements: meeting them does not by itself guarantee admission.
For every track
- A grade of 75 or higher in mathematics at 5 units in the bagrut or in a recognized university pre-academic mechina in a science track, or a grade of 85 or higher in mathematics at 4 units in the bagrut or in a recognized university pre-academic mechina in a science track, or at least 4 units in mathematics in the bagrut with a grade of 55 or higher and a grade of 85 or higher on the mathematics level placement exam administered by the School of Mathematics in the Faculty of Exact Sciences
- A grade of 75 or higher in physics at 5 units in the bagrut or in a recognized university pre-academic mechina in a science track, or a grade of 85 or higher on the level placement exam for the physics preparatory course held at the Faculty of Engineering during the summer months
- The university’s general admission requirementsAn Israeli bagrut certificate or a high-school completion certificate from abroad

What you study
Does physics sound too theoretical to you? Like a degree you can't do anything with in the “real world”?
Physics deals with the fundamental laws of nature as they are expressed in observable systems, from the microscopic composition of matter to the structure of the entire universe. Among other things, physics studies the motion of objects, the behavior of matter, energy, and the effects of the laws of nature on the continuum of space and time. Courses in the degree include foundational subjects in physics and mathematics—mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics—as well as advanced courses such as solid-state physics, elementary particle physics, astrophysics, optics, biophysics and more. The studies also include laboratory experience, including learning modern measurement methods and investigating physical phenomena.
